Abstract

The following paper describes the work carried out by the Chemical Metrology Department to develop the first national breath analyser calibration service according to the recommendation from the International Organization of Legal Metrology, OIML R126:2012(E) (OIML, 2012). A detailed account of the different stages of this process is given, from method validation to the production of Certified Reference Materials of ethanol in water to be used as standards. In addition, a detailed description of the modifications introduced as a consequence of the "zero alcohol" law established in 2016 is presented, in order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposal to the requirements established in the recommendation.
